Stephen Cochran

If great country music is still built on a solid foundation of compelling real-life stories and soul-deep family tradition, Stephen Cochran was born to the breed. With a Music Row pedigree, a soldier’s sense of purpose and a lifetime’s worth of stories, this 27-year-old explodes onto the country music scene with a self-titled debut album that combines the best of cutting-edge, contemporary songwriting with the deepest country music tradition. It’s a potent combination, and it was Cochran’s intention from the start.

“We really tried to capture country music as a whole,” he says. “This is all about the music, and I handpicked every song on this CD.”

From the cracking snare drum that kicks off “Friday Night Fireside,” the album’s raucous leadoff track and debut single, it’s clear that, musically, Cochran means business. Cochran knew he had to record the song that was co-written by Isaac Rich, brother of Big & Rich’s John Rich.

Born in Pikeville, Kentucky and raised in the creative heart of Nashville’s songwriting and recording community, he watched his Dad, Steve Cochran, wrestle with the machinery of Music Row as a struggling songwriter and artist. Country greats Bobby Bare and the late Del Reeves are just a couple of the characters that drifted in and out of the Cochran home. Click here to read more

Katie Armiger

Official Site: KatieArmiger.com

Newcomer Katie Armiger’s powerful vocals and skillful songwriting are clearly showcased on her new music. At the ripe age of 17, Katie does not hold back and has an inspiring combination of determination and passion that shines through in her music.

Katie Armiger’s journey truly began two years ago when she entered “Houston’s Best Country Singer” contest sponsored by Radio 93Q Country. The contest, which was held over an eight week period, had over 150 boys and girls ages 9-17 in the Junior Division who were vying for the title. After several performances Katie rose to the top to grab the title of Houston’s Best Country Singer in her division with her rendition of Martina McBride’s “Whatever You Say.”

Several months later, Katie arrived in Nashville, where she began her work in the studio. Having completed some of the demo tracks that now appear on her debut album it was obvious to all those around Katie that the project was special and should become something more. Thus the juggling act began. At the same time Katie was going to high school and maintaining an A average, she was listening to, writing, and rehearsing music. Click here to read more

Frank Ortega

As a young boy, Frank Ortega dreamed of what it might be like to some day be a country music star.  Today, Ortega is living that dream by bringing back the traditional honky tonk bar sound that country music once had.

Growing up in the Sunshine State of Arizona, Ortega spent many afternoons listening to the classic country greats like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, and Buck Owens, which his father played day after day.

“They were just such simple songs about what is real,” notes Ortega.  “Some of my greatest memories growing up were walking in the door, hearing that music being played very loud, and smelling my Mother’s cookin’ in the kitchen – couldn’t beat it. My Daddy would be singing and playing along with his old acoustic guitar in his hands.  Even though he knew just three chords, it didn’t matter.”

The Oak Ridge Boys

orb1With their latest album, the evergreen Oak Ridge Boys prove that they are not only enduring, they are evolving.

The Boys Are Back is a roots-music revelation wherein the veteran quartet explores blues, country, Gospel and rock textures. Producer David Cobb brought the group styles and songs it has never attempted before, from John Lee Hookeer’s “Boom Boom” to Neil Young’s “Beautiful Bluebird,” from Jamey Johnson’s stone-country “Mama’s Table” to the blues classic “Troubl’in Mind.” “Hold You in My Arms” comes from pop star Ray Lamontagne. Country rebel Shooter Jennings wrote the collection’s title tune especially for the Oaks. “Live with Jesus” and “You Ain’t Gonna Blow My House Down” are Nashville songs, while “Hold Me Closely” comes from Los Angeles. This album’s innovative repertoire is perhaps best illustrated by The Oak Ridge Boys’ striking version of The White Stripes’ song “Seven Nation Army.”
